Location
The Amfiteatri Boutique Hotel is located in the best position of Durres. 1,800 years ago the Romans chose the best place in the city to build the largest Roman Amphitheater in the Balkans. As the hotel is next door to this Roman Amphitheater, it also shares the best location in the city. Additionally, you can easily walk to the major points of interest of Durres, as well as the promenade and stunning beaches.
Check In
At check in you’ll receive a warm family welcome to the hotel. There are 15 rooms in the hotel which helps maintain the family feel. You should ask at reception for a map of the city and the receptionist will be happy to circle the points of interest. In addition, if you’re planning on making any day trips the hotel can help you organize these. Popular day trips include to Tirana, Shkoder, Kruja Castle, Apollonia or the UNESCO town of Berat. Be sure to ask about the delicious Albanian tea.
Guest Room
The guest rooms are extremely homely and comfortable. As well as complimentary WiFi, you have a flat screen TV with access to several cable channels in English. In addition there is temperature control, so whichever season you visit, the temperature will be as you like it.
Comfortable Bed Experience
The bed and sleep experience at the hotel deserves a special mention. From any bed I have slept in throughout the world, the bed in the Amfiteatri Boutique Hotel is the most memorable. The mattress and pillows are very comfortable. In addition the sheets and bedding are of high quality which compliments your sleeping experience. In fact, if someone asked me ‘where would you like to sleep tonight?’ my answer would be, ‘in the Amfiteatri Boutique Hotel!’
En Suite Bathroom
The modern bathrooms are spacious and come with all required amenities (hairdryer included!). You have the choice of a regular shower or a rainfall shower. There is a towel heater so you can dry off with a warm towel which like the bedding, are of notably high quality. Additionally, bath robes are provided which are useful for when you make your way over to the comfortable bed.
A Room with a View
The best view of the amphitheater is from the window on the fourth floor by the elevator (above). Other views from the rooms include Durres city view, the Adriatic sea and the Great Mosque. Balcony rooms are available for those who like to sit outside and enjoy the weather.
Complimentary Breakfast Buffet
The complimentary breakfast buffet will give you the required energy to visit the points of interest of Durres, or to spend a day on the beach. It’s worth noting that some of the pastries are delicious. In addition to the delicious breakfast you should take the time to view the photo collection. The hotel has gathered a historic collection of photographs of how Durres looked years ago. It’s always interesting to see how a city looked years ago compared to today. The pictures inspired me to visit the Royal Villa of Durres. Although it’s not as grand as it once was, the views of the city and Adriatic sea are breathtaking from up there.
Escape Tunnel
One feature you’ll find in the hotel which you won’t find in any other is an underground escape tunnel. Albania has an interesting history and these tunnels were built during the communist era. The government believed Albania could be attacked at any time. Normally the underground tunnel is not open but the staff will be happy to show you it if you ask. You could make some unique Instagram photos from inside the underground!

I had no idea there was a Colosseum in Albania! A hotel with a view of it sounds amazing too. The bedroom looks cosy and I’d love to see how comfy the bed really is! Also the escape route is pretty amazing too!
Hi Sandra, the amphitheater is very impressive and it’s a privilege to take a look at it whenever you want! The bed is the best I’ve ever slept in, it’s worth going to Durres just to sleep in the bed!
