Mexico is a top destination for great vacations, with plenty of options and activities that you can enjoy alone or with your family. Most places in Mexico are very cheap to visit and if your plan is to travel with a limited budget, here I share with you some of the best and cheap beaches.
Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca
One of the preferred destinations in Oaxaca and most beautiful corners of the Mexican Pacific, with a rustic atmosphere and eco-chic hotels to admire the sunset. Puerto Escondido is located 290 kilometers far from Oaxaca and is a perfect option to practice surf because of the big waves or have an encounter with the turtles and dolphins with the different tours offered by locals.
Even though it is a famous destination in Oaxaca, there is no big hotel chains around, what makes Puerto Escondido perfect to have a relaxed escape. Walking through the Adoquin is also one of the favorite activities among visitors, especially in the night, with the streets full of musicians, souvenir stores and attractive restaurants and bars to have a perfect evening.
Mahahual, Quintana Roo
This is a little town located 355 kilometers from Cancun, perfect for disconnected from the world and escape from the crowd of Cancun or Playa del Carmen. Even though it is a 4-hours drive from the capital city, you can easily do it with all different Cancun transportation options you can find. Once in Mahahual the ideal is to rent a bicycle to go through the town without missing any attraction.
Mahahual is an ecological destination with sustainable hotels and colorful coral reefs for snorkeling. Romantic dinners under the stars are pretty famous for visitors, and walking through the coastline is always a good plan at the end of the day.
Playa de Los Muertos, Puerto Vallarta
This is one of the most popular and visited beaches among locals and visitors who want to enjoy the local culture. This beach is located in the historical center in the “Romantic Zone”, with a great offer of restaurants and nightclubs and easy to access from anywhere with a Puerto Vallarta car rental or bus.
The pier is a popular tourist attraction founded in 2013, visited for locals and tourists, perfect to do a little walk and sit to enjoy the sunset. This is also the start point to some tours to other beaches nearby and a designed area to disembark water taxis, fishing boats and yachts.
Mazatlan, Sinaloa
Known as the Pacific Pearl, it is home to splendid beaches of gold sand and good weather the whole year. Practice surf or snorkeling is possible in the beaches of the golden zone, also sport fishing is a very popular sport in Mazatlan.
Now, if you want a more excited activity, after a comfortable walk through the pier, you must visit El Clavadista or The Diver, a 14 meters high viewpoint that welcomes brave people who want to show off their best jumps. Another popular attraction is the three island, Isla Pajaros, Isla Venados and Isla de Lobos, located in front of the tourist zone and decreed as an ecological reserve in 1991. Unfortunately, only Isla Venados is open to public and is possible to go with a specific tour.
Besides the breath-taking beaches, Mazatlan is also famous for its historical center and the architectonic landscapes, considered Cultural heritage of Humanity.
Holbox, Quintana Roo
Holbox is a little island famous for its quiet atmosphere, hot temperature and virgin beaches. The island count with only 40 kilometers long and there are no vehicles, but you can rent a golf cart to move through the island and visit all the attractions it has to offer. Big hotel chains are not allowed in Holbox so you can spend a relaxed time and enjoy the local commerce.
The Shark Whale watching is very popular in Holbox, especially in August, and you can get a tour with specific people to get closer. The island is also famous for its gastronomic offer, so don’t leave the place without trying the lobster pizza or any other exquisite seafood.
To reach the island, you first need to get to Chiquila and then take a boat to Holbox. Chiquila is located 2 hours far from Cancun and to go you can get a Cancun shuttle or take a taxi or bus.
