Guest Room – Lord Cullen
The hotel features several unique rooms and suites. As a result, each time you visit will be a different experience. I stayed in the Lord Cullen suite which featured a four poster bed. I highly recommend you choose a 4 poster bed room to complement your stay in this historic building. Finally, complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate is available in the room.
En Suite Bathroom
Firstly, all en-suite bathrooms feature Penhaligon’s toiletries. Even if you’ve never heard of this brand, you’ll come to appreciate it when you take a bath or shower. Have you ever bathed in a freestanding bath before? Select rooms at the property feature these baths. Furthermore, adjacent to the bath is a flat screen TV to enhance your luxury experience.

The history of Rushton Hall may date back hundreds of years. However, the spa features many modern, state of the art facilities. All guests receive complimentary access to the heated indoor swimming pool. In addition, complimentary access is also granted to the spa pools, sauna, steam room as well as the fitness suite. At an additional cost, guests may also book a spa treatment. I recommend you book an appointment when you make your room reservation.
Sauna and Steam Room
All guests at the hotel can enjoy complimentary access to the sauna and steam room. Additionally, enjoy both the indoor and outdoor spa pools.
The Great Hall
The Great Hall looks like a room which is full of history, and it is! As a matter of fact, the stories about the Great Hall don’t disappoint. It is said that Haversham Hall from the novel Great Expectations is based on the Great Hall. Yes, Charles Dickens was a regular visitor to Rushton Hall. Another piece of interesting history is that this was the last place that Glenn Miller ever performed. Ask the staff for more details. Today, it’s where guests enjoy a drink from the bar before heading to the restaurant. Lastly, Afternoon Tea can also be enjoyed in the Great Hall.
Underground Bar
Even if you’re a frequent visitor to Rushton Hall, it’s unlikely you know about the underground bar. It’s directly beneath the Great Hall and can be hired for private events. Those who admire architecture will enjoy a visit to the underground bar. In addition, this could be the oldest example of authentic English brickwork in the country.
Wine Menu
If you require a glass of wine to enjoy in the Great Hall or a bottle to accompany your evening meal, rest assured Rushton Hall offers a complete wine list. Furthermore, if you need a suggestion, be sure to ask a Sommelier.
Rushton Hall Restaurants
As well as the Great Hall, the property also features 2 restaurants and 3 AA Rosettes. Firstly, the 1593 Brasserie offers delicious, locally sourced food in a both a relaxing and historic setting. Alternatively, try the fine dining experience at the Tresham Restaurant. I recommend you book your table when you make your hotel reservation.
1593 Brasserie
The 1593 Brasserie serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Admire the Equestrian themed room or look out the window for stunning garden views.
Starter – 1593 Brasserie
I share a photo of the English asparagus, crispy egg, Hollandaise which I can confirm is delicious. Alternative starters available were mackerel pate, goats cheese fondant, beetroot cured salmon, chicken liver parfait, Italian charcuterie or of course the soup of the day.
Main Course – 1593 Brasserie
There was a huge variety available on the Brasserie 1593 menu. Options included risotto (above), truffle ravioli, chicken Kiev, Moroccan spiced lamb, pork chop or pan fried hake polonaise. Alternatively, there are traditional classics available.
Main Course – Traditional Classics – 1593 Brasserie
There were many traditional classics to choose from and of course I chose fish and chips. As a matter of fact, the chips were some of the tastiest I’ve ever had! Other British classics to choose from included British Steak, a burger or salad.
Dessert – 1593 Brasserie
For dessert, I chose the trifle which was exceptionally delicious. However, you may consider the dark chocolate terrine (above) which I can also confirm is delicious. Other tempting desserts included bread and butter pudding, pavlova or a three cheese and biscuit selection.
Tresham Restaurant
Tresham Restaurant offers fine dining at Rushton Hall. Take note of the dress code and enjoy the 3 AA Rosette food. As you would expect at a fine dining restaurant, dishes depend on the season as well as the availability of quality sources.
Starter – Tresham Restaurant
Your starter consists of fresh, well prepared ingredients which are excellently presented. I had the choice of crab, celeriac (above), scallops, cheese or ham. Of course the menu can vary depending on the season.
Main Course
For main course I chose the beef dish, 28 day Aberdeenshire beef to be exact. Other options included, lamb, venison, halibut or polenta.
Dessert
Presentation is very important at the Tresham Restaurant as this photo of a dessert shows. I can confirm this dessert was delicious.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served each morning in the 1593 Brasserie. Firstly, you can choose a dish from the breakfast menu. This consists of a full English, smoked salmon, poached eggs, kippers or smoked haddock. For vegetarians, there’s a vegetarian version of the full English available. The dish you choose is served with freshly prepared toast as well as tea or coffee. In addition to this is a breakfast buffet. One thing’s for sure, you won’t be hungry come the end of your breakfast.
Rushton Hall Park
If you’re from London or any city you’ll really appreciate breathing in the fresh clean air whilst exploring the gardens. That’s not to mention the peace and quiet.
Rushton Hall Park at Sunset / Sunrise
A good time to explore the gardens is of course after you enjoy breakfast or a meal in either of the restaurants. Alternatively, check out the gardens at sunset. Sunsets can be spectacular over this historic building and gardens.
Wildlife at Rushton Hall Park
It’s likely you’ll see some wildlife as you explore the gardens. There are squirrels, rabbits and also geese.
The Orangery
Firstly, from the exterior, The Orangery is a top Instagram location at Rushton Hall. This complements the fact that it is also one of the UK’s top wedding venues. With the historic building and the picturesque gardens, is there a more scenic spot to take your wedding photos?
Entrance Hall – The Orangery
The grand entrance hall to The Orangery features a large bar which I’m sure is well used during a wedding.
Ballroom – The Orangery
I mentioned that The Orangery looks stunning from the outside looking in. How about from the inside, looking out over the gardens? As a matter of fact, with the chandeliers, the high ceilings and windows as well as sweeping views over the gardens, The Orangery Ballroom is another top Instagram spot at Rushton Hall.
Picture Gallery Room – The Orangery
The Picture Gallery room has 2 main purposes. Early in the day this is where your marriage will be registered. Later on, the floor will be cleared and it will become a disco as part of your wedding reception.
Priest Hole
Once upon a time in England Catholicism was forbidden. However, former Rushton Hall owner Sir Thomas Tresham was a practising Catholic. For this reason, a church formerly stood in the gardens. If you look at historic pictures on display throughout the property you’ll where this church was located. With this private church it was possible for Catholic clergy to perform services. As this was outlawed, priest holes were created in case the Kings / Queens men came to enforce this law. As a result the clergy could safely hide until all the King’s men were gone. If you’re interested in seeing this interesting piece of history, ask at reception.
