The North Coast 500 – Scotland’s Ultimate Ride

Often described as “Scotland’s Route 66,” the North Coast 500 (or NC500) is a 516-mile loop across some of the country’s best landscapes.  Starting and finishing in Inverness, the route traces the northern coastline.  It weaves through mountain passes and historic fishing villages in the Highlands.

The combination of sweeping coastal roads and technical sections makes the NC500 particularly appealing for bikers.  After leaning into long bends, you’ll soon find yourself navigating single-lane traffic.  Some stretches have blind corners and tight bends where patience is essential, especially when meeting larger vehicles.  In the ten years since the route was officially launched by the Tourism Project Board of the North Highland Initiative, the NC500 has been hailed as one of the most beautiful road trips in the world.

The Atlantic Highway (A39) – Cornwall to Somerset

Stretching from the surfing hub of Cornwall to Somerset, this section of the A39 features ocean panoramas and a patchwork of quaint seaside towns.  Along the way, you’ll pass by rolling farmland and the rugged moorland charm of Exmoor National Park.  The route runs from Barnstaple in North Devon to Fraddon in Cornwall, where it joins the A30.

The route is varied, with winding coastal stretches of smooth open tarmac and hidden gems a short detour away.  The Atlantic Highway can be beautiful at sunrise or sunset, when the ocean glows under the changing sky.  However, conditions can be unpredictable with the strong coastal winds and frequent sudden changes in weather, so take care in Cornwall, where the roads can be narrower.

The Cat and Fiddle – Peak District

Named after the historic inn at its summit, the Cat and Fiddle road (A537) is one of the UK’s most iconic motorcycle routes.  Stretching between Buxton and Macclesfield, it cuts through the heart of the Peak District, offering sweeping curves and elevated views of the National Park.
