The Saint John is a boutique hotel located in the center of the capital city of Malta, Valletta. The advantages of staying at the Saint John whilst visiting Malta are;
- Location in the center of Valletta
- Baroque style building
- Luxury interior and rooms
- Complimentary breakfast with bread baked onsite
- Super fast and complimentary WiFi
- Modern meeting rooms
The city of Valletta is a UNESCO world heritage site. When you stay in The Saint John Hotel you are staying in a UNESCO world heritage site. Check out The Saint John website for the best room rates or Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for the latest events.
Location
Valletta is the smallest capital city in the European Union which means that everything in the city is a short walk from the hotel. You can walk to the famous sites of Valletta such as St John’s Co-Cathedral or the National War Museum. There are many bars and restaurants lining the streets of Valletta which you can walk to. The hotel also hosts its own bar and restaurant called the Cheeky Monkey Gastropub. Valletta can get hot in the summer so you’ll appreciate the air conditioning in the Cheeky Monkey!
It’s easy to get to the hotel from other parts of Malta. You can take a taxi to the front door. Other options are to arrive in Valletta at the bus station or the ferry port. There are 2 ferry ports, one goes to Sliema and the other goes to Pozzallo, Sicily.
Check In
Whilst checking in you’ll be able to appreciate the stunning interior of the hotel. I’d also recommend telling the friendly check in staff why you are in town so they can make suggestions for your stay. The staff speak perfect English as they do everywhere in Malta.
Guest Room
The bed is super comfy which means you are guaranteed a good night sleep. The flat screen TV is connected to the internet so you’re able to watch movies and YouTube. You can connect the TV with your phone for maximum control. Something unique about the room is the telephone. It’s an old fashioned telephone like they used to have in the 60’s. I called down to reception to ask what time it was just so I could use the retro telephone. There is a fridge and minibar available and coffee in the room is made through a Nescafe Dolce Gusto machine.
Guest Bathroom
The bathroom comes with a good selection of complimentary toiletries. You have two options with the shower, a portable shower head or a rainfall shower. There are bathrobes in the room, you are here to relax!
Rooftop View
The Carmelite Church dome is very difficult to photograph whilst walking through Valletta. One location you are guaranteed a good view of the dome from is the hotel rooftop. From the rooftop you get a unique angle of the church dome with views of the harbor and Sliema behind. Another good location to photograph the church dome from is on the ferry to / from Sliema.
Instagram Worthy Staircase
There are guest elevators in the hotel. I would recommend taking the stairs at least once to appreciate the hotel interior. You’ll find artwork, paintings, chandeliers as well as aerial views of the stunning hotel reception. For Instagram lovers you can take some very unique shots around the hotel.
Business Center
For those who are visiting Valletta on business the hotel offers a couple of meeting rooms. The rooms are private with air conditioning, power sockets and WiFi. You can order refreshments from the Cheeky Monkey restaurant throughout your meeting.
Buffet Breakfast
A complimentary breakfast is available every morning in the Cheeky Monkey Gastropub. Something unique about the breakfast is that the bread is baked onsite every morning. You couldn’t get fresher bread and because I was first for breakfast it was still warm. As well as the breakfast buffet you can also enjoy unlimited coffee from the bars own coffee machine.
The Gastropub is open all day, it makes the perfect place to escape the Valletta heat and enjoy a cold beer.
Enjoy your stay at Valletta Hotels – The Saint John Boutique Hotel – Malta
I recommend booking your stay directly with the hotel. For a 1-2 night stay you get 5% discount and complimentary breakfast. For a 3 night stay you get a 15% discount, a complimentary one way airport transfer and complimentary breakfast.

Things to do in Valletta, things to do in Malta and things to do in Gozo.
I had no idea that Valletta is the smallest capital city in the EU. I love that everything’s within walking distance of the hotel. I also appreciate any hotel that offers free WiFi and breakfast! The freshly baked bread at breakfast sounds delicious. The interior is stunning too!
This is such a great hotel, and has so much charm too. I like that it’s right in the centre of Valletta, it makes it accessible to everything. Onsite freshly baked bread sounds and smells like a dream. Great tip about photographing the dome from the rooftop, I’ll remember that!
Saint John Hotel looks amazing. Its got the perfect location for both leisure and business traveller. the views alone from the top of the building are beautiful. looks like the ideal accommodation!
Valleta’s Saint John Hotel is a place worth lodging. The pictures testify to the luxury it exudes and I can imagine what a night here would like. And the bathroom is prettily clean too. Only if my boss would schedule here for those business meetings he thinks we need to spend a week for not some remote memory weakning places.
I love the bright blue exterior accents! How quaint! The fresh bread for breakfast sounds fantastic! I’m not sure I’ve ever had breakfast in a pub before.
I personally love staying in boutique hotels than the normal ones. The Saint John is beautiful place to stay with such comfortable guest rooms. The view from the rooftop is amazing. Superb photographs and honest review. Thanks for sharing
The hotel exterior and interior look so grand and unique. It would definitely be a true experience of staying in a UNESCO world heritage city. The location looks perfect too for exploring the smallest capital in the EU!
This looks like the perfect hotel to stay at while visiting Valletta. I love that they serve complimentary breakfast and that they bake their own bread. And how cool that they had a retro style phone. Glad the bed was comfortable as that is always something that is important to me as I find it hard to sleep in places other than my bed. Hope to visit Valletta soon and will keep in mind this hotel for my stay.
I love staying in boutique hotels as they are so much more personal and generally provide a much better level of service. Everyone just seems friendlier and staff get to know you in a way they can’t in a large hotel. The Saint John Hotel just looks stunning from the photos you have taken and the review certainly backs up how good it looks. This is somewhere I would definitely want to stay in Valletta.
I love the vibe of this boutique hotel in Valletta! It seems old school yet modern and I love that mix. The location sounds perfect, already in the center of Valletta to start your exploration of the capital!
Valletta sounds like an easy destination to explore, especially when you are staying in the center of the city. The boutique hotel looks perfect, I prefer to stay in these as they are more personal. It’s good to hear the staff speak English and are keen to welcome guests to their country, Malta!
Seems like a great hotel. I personally prefer to stay at properties which can give me a touch of a place amidst luxury. Love the vibes here
I don’t think I’ve ever actually stayed in a boutique hotel before, but I think I might need to rethink that. Hotel Saint Johns Valletta looks like a fun place to stay and I would probably spend a big chunk of time checking out the whole hotel. The entry way looks really fun. I love the personality it has!
I really like the look and sound of The Saint John Hotel, I especially love that staircase its lovely. I have been to Malta but only for a couple of days, I have always wanted to go back though and this is definitely a place I would look in to stay at. Bonous that it is in a great location to get about and that they bake their own bread on site. Fresh bread yum yum
OMG the inside is absolutely amazing!!! How wonderful that everything is within walking distance right? That staircase and bathroom looks like it belongs in a castle!! The key to good amenities is a nice best and fast wifi!!
The hotel facade alone is enough to convince me to stay here. Can we just talk about that guest bathroom? It looks so luxurious and amazing. Also, love the view that you got from your room. You can’t put a price on that!
Haha an old-fashioned phone? I wouldn’t know how to use either! The room looks so spacious and homey. You’re lucky to get a great view from the rooftop!
I have been looking for a hotel in Valletta which gives you a feel of the city and this could be it! I’m happy people like you get access and share photos we wouldn’t normally get to see! Staying in a hotel in a UNESCO area is such a good idea!
