Coming home after travelling is one of life’s truly underrated joys – yes, you’ll have loved your time away and had plenty of adventures, but there’s nothing quite like stepping back through your door into your own space once you’re done. But what happens if your home feels less like a warm, welcoming place when you get back than when you left it? The good news is, you can prepare ahead to make sure that doesn’t happen, and if you want to know more, keep reading to find out.
Set Up A Relaxation Zone
After a long journey, the first thing you’ll want to do is unwind, so it’s wise to create a relaxation zone that means you can properly kick back and chill. Start will a soft, snuggly throw or blanket and some plump cushions, and if you’ve got a nook or corner to spare, set up some comfortable seating with fabric armchairs – they’ll be perfect for sinking into with a cup of tea or a good book or perhaps they’ll be a place where you can go through your holiday photos and relive your wonderful memories before you have to get back to reality.
For the ultimate cozy setup, consider adding a deep sectional sofa for movie nights. With extra-deep seating and plenty of space to stretch out, it creates the perfect spot to relax, watch your favorite films, and unwind after a long trip.
Adding a small side table is also a good idea because you’ll have a place to put your drink, book, phone, etc, and it’ll be a lovely finishing touch for an area that’s made just for you to settle into once you get home.
Keep The Welcome Fresh
Nothing’s worse than coming home to stale air and a less than happy feeling in your home, so before you leave, do a quick tidy up and throw away anything that might go off while you’re away (which means definitely clearing out the fridge and removing any flowers and so on from around the house). When you get back to a clean, clutter-free place, it’ll instantly feel more inviting.
You could even take things further by leaving out a diffuser or lighting a candle with your favourite scent as soon as you’re back. Or what about arranging for a cleaner to come in on the day before you arrive home to make things as clean and fresh as possible? It could be a great investment if you want to come back to a welcoming home.
Prepare A Little Luxury
Think about what makes a space luxurious to you – maybe it’s freshly washed sheets on your bed or a fluffy dressing gown waiting in the bathroom… or really anything else you can think of, including a stash of your favourite snacks just waiting for you when you get back.
Small luxuries like these don’t have to cost a fortune or take ages to set up, but they’ll be an wonderful welcome home. Just remember not to choose snacks that can spoil otherwise you’ll have a bigger problem on your hands than you’ll want when you’ve just got home. But other than that, set up your welcome before you leave so you not only know it’s there and can enjoy it, but so you can look forward to it – it might take the sting of coming home after your trip a little easier to take.
